Florida checks
Could your visit take place online?
An online visit can be a real conversation. Ask how the person treating you will check your health and answer your questions.

Florida permits remote care with conditions
A person already licensed to give care in Florida needs no extra Florida licence for online visits here.
Someone licensed in another state usually needs Florida registration to give online care to a patient here.
The law allows care without that registration in two limited cases: an emergency, or helping a Florida-licensed health professional with a patient’s care. In the second case, the Florida professional keeps the final say over diagnosis and care.
A second opinion you seek on your own does not, by itself, meet that advice exception.
Florida requires online care and its medical record to meet the standard used for in-person care.
A useful assessment may need more
First, the person treating you must have enough information to work out the health problem and treat it. If they do, Florida’s general online-care law does not require a physical exam or a review of past records first.
Ask what information they need in your case. Ask what would call for tests or an exam in a room.
National guidance tells doctors to arrange tests needed for the health check or refer the patient to a person able to do those tests. It also tells doctors to send patients for an in-person exam when one is needed.
The national group of state medical boards wrote this guidance for the boards to use. It is advice about doctors’ responsibilities, rather than a Florida law on its own.
Plan how to get answers
Ask who reads your notes and how follow-up questions work. Set aside somewhere you can hear and speak comfortably.
Have the names of your medicines ready. Let the service know where you plan to be for the visit.
If the visit is for weight care, open that briefing too. Florida has a specific prescribing rule for that purpose.
